a tortoise and a hare
They decided to settle the argument with a race. They agreed on a route and
started off the race. The hare shot ahead and ran briskly for some time.
Then seeing that he was far ahead of the tortoise, he thought he'd sit under a
tree for some time and relax before continuing the race. He sat under the
tree and soon fell asleep.
The tortoise plodding on overtook him and soon finished the race, emerging as
the undisputed champ. The hare woke up and realized that he'd lost the race.
The moral of the story is that slow and steady wins the race.
This is the version of the story that we've all grown up with. But then
recently, someone told me a more interesting version of this story. It continues...
The hare was disappointed at losing the race and he did some soul-searching. He
realized that he'd lost the race only because he had been overconfident,
ca reless and lax.
If he had not taken things for granted, there's no way the tortoise could have
beaten him. So he challenged the tortoise to another race. The tortoise
agreed. This time, the hare went all out and ran without stopping from start to finish. He won by several miles.
The moral of the story?
Fast and consistent will always beat the slow and steady.
If you have two people in your organization , one slow, methodical and
reliable, and the other fast and still reliable at what he does, the fast and
reliable chap will consistently climb the organizational ladder faster than
the slow, methodical chap.
It's good to be slow and steady; but it's better to be fast and reliable. But
the story doesn't end here.
The tortoise did some thinking this time and realized that there's no way he can
beat the hare in a race the way it was currently formatted.
He thought for a while, and then challenged the hare to another race, but
on a slightly different route. The hare agreed. They started off.
In keeping with his self-made commitment to be consistently fast, the hare took
off and ran at top speed until he came to a broad river. The finishing line was
a couple of kilometres on the other side of the river.
The hare sat there wondering what to do. In the meantime the tortoise trundled
along, got into the river, swam to the opposite bank, continued walking and
finished the race.
The moral of the story?
First identify your core competency and then change the playing field to suit
your core competency.
T he story still hasn't ended.
The hare and the tortoise, by this time, had become pretty good friends and they
did some thinking together. Both realized that the last race could have
been run much better.
Th ere, the tortoise took over and swam across with the hare on his back. On the
opposite bank, the hare again carried the tortoise and they reached the
finishing line together.
The y both felt a greater sense of satisfaction than they'd felt earlier.
The moral of the story?
It's good to be individually brilliant and to have strong core competencies;
but unless you're able to work in a team and harness each other's core
competencies , you'll always perform below par because there will always be
situations at which you'll do poorly and someone else does well.
Teamwor k is mainly about situational leadership, letting the person with the
relevant core competency for a situation take leadership.
T here are more lessons to be learnt from this story.
- Note that neither the hare nor the tortoise gave up after failures.
- The hare decided to work harder and put in more effort after his failure.
- The tortoise changed his strategy because he was already working as hard
as he could.
- In life, when faced with failure, sometime s it is appropriate to work
harder and put in more effort.
- Sometimes it is appropriate to change strategy and try something different.
And sometimes it is appropriate to do both.
- The hare and the tortoise also learnt another vital lesson. When we stop
competing against a rival and instead start competing against the situation,
we perform far better.

A poem by Aashiq-E-Mustapha. It sums up how our actions can be part of Dhikr and how every part of the body praises Allah:
Dhikr of the eyes, which consists in weeping
Dhikr of the ears, which consists in listening
Dhikr of the tongue, which consists in praise
Dhikr of the hands, which consists in giving
Dhikr of the body, which consists in loyalty
Dhikr of the heart, which consists in fear and hope
Dhikr of the spirit, which consists of utter submission and acceptance.

Syukur Alhamdulillah
so,today is my birthday. im glad dat last nite was malam nisfu sya'ban, so amrien, syal, iffah n i were baca yaasin n performed our prayer together. other than dat, everything juz felt the same like any other normal day except for accepting few birthday wish from my brother, sister and some other frens..
actually, every year, i dont really hv any special feeling on my birthday. for me, we are getting older every single seconds, minutes, hours, days and years. so, it doesnt really matter about the idea of having a birthday.
so, i juz lead my life as usual, going to lectures and tute. and one funny thing dat i did today, dengan slamba nya, during lecture ling, i took out a chocolate bar as our juadah 'buka puasa'. i think im the only one who always eager, bring something for 'berbuka' in the lecture hall.haha~ the other dont really bother to eat during lecture.
after the last lecture, amrien ask me to perform solat maghrib in musollah. iffah, ida n syal also came with us. there was nothing suspicious bout dat since we had done dat during winter. but, i think it kinda fool of me 4 not noticing dat amrien was purposely buying time to make us wait till isya'.
on d way back home, the only thing in my mind is to eat.since we were already perform our solat isya'.. there nothing to worry about anymore. syal and iffah said they want to come to my house to take something from amrien. ok, for me, that excuse was acceptable. im so blurred and didnt realize dat something smells fishy. but as we reach home, amrien cant open the door (i also think dat is normal c0z sometimes the door is like that, it doesnt want to accept amrien card). so, i tried to open it, it can be open but there was something dat push the door from inside. i thought it was venisha c0z she always likes to play around with us.
but as i open the door, i saw darkness..at first, i felt hesitate to open. then i heard voices sang a birthday song. as i switch on the light, i saw the whole cohort (except zye who's working at dat time) were waiting for me with a birthday cake and other special food that they cooked together dat evening.
then i realized dat why i didnt see venisha and ramyah in the ling's lecture. no wonder there was very few people present for today's lecture. now i know where hv they been.
im speechless, there no word could describe my feeling at that time. i feel so happy and very grateful for everything dat u guys hv planned for my birthday. this post is to express my gratitude towards what hv u guys done. lots of thanks 4 all my fellow frens, the maccy cohort 3.
i luv u guys so much...;D
p/s: lots of thanks to fadzilah and amira too 4 d birthday cards dat u guys sent. im proud to hv such a sweet frens like u guys. i feel so special to receive 2 special birthday wish from uk. i luv u guys too. so sad i couldnt celebrate my birthday with u guys..miss u guys a lot..muahh~
